Peyote Retreat Portugal: a Traditional Wirrarika (Huichol) Ceremony
Once a year, Marakame Juan travels from Mexico to hold a traditional Hikuri (peyote) ceremony at our retreat house in the Algarve, together with Curandera Devi Chandra Ma (Prana Foundation).
Eight people, two days and one night around the fire, from sunset to dawn: a small peyote retreat in Europe, held with prayer, song and offerings, and with care before and after the ceremony.
Why This Peyote Retreat in Portugal Is Different
A traditional ceremony from the Wirrarika lineage, held in a small circle and followed by real integration, without travelling to Mexico.
A Living Lineage
Guided by a Wirrarika Marakame who travels from Mexico once a year, with prayer, song and offerings as they are held in his community.
Sunset to Dawn
Around the fire: songs, prayers and several servings through the night, closing at dawn with prayers to the four winds.
A Family-Like Circle
Eight places and glamping tents on the land. Warm presence and time to rest: not festival energy, not mass ceremony.
Integration Built In
An intro call before, integration circles after the ceremony, and a follow-up call once you are home.

Who Holds the Ceremony
The Peyote night is guided by Marakame Juan and Curandera Devi Chandra Ma. The Vine of the Soul Retreats team holds everything around it.

Marakame Juan (Don Juan Ortiz)
A Wirrarika (Huichol) traditional healer from Jalisco, Mexico, and the First Chant Leader (Primer Cantor) of his community. With 35+ years walking the Blue Deer Medicine (Hikuri), he leads the traditional Wirikuta pilgrimage and is among the few permitted to perform sacred living offerings.

Curandera Devi Chandra Ma
A Mexican curandera with 20+ years of facilitating ancestral medicine ceremonies (Ayahuasca, Bufo Alvarius, Peyote). Her devotional work, shaped by a near-death experience, weaves shamanic, Vedic and earth-based practice, including cacao ceremonies and song.

Vine of the Soul Retreats
We hold the frame around the ceremony: the intro call, your arrival, care through the night, the integration circle and the follow-up call once you are home. Trauma-informed, carefully paced, and with continuity after the retreat.
